LED Light Therapy...the Game Changer for skin

LED Light Therapy...the Game Changer for skin

Before launching LightLab, I was already an advocate for LED Light Therapy- from in-salon treatments in conjunction with facials, to at-home masks. But I really wanted something that not only made it super easy for me to do at home in my downtime, but also do consistently, efficiently, and without the cost associated with salon treatments.

Oh, and also targeting the skin on my chest, neck and booty!

Understandably, there's a bit of confusion around LED Light Therapy. What does it do? What are the benefits? How often should you use it? And is it safe?

I unpack the benefits of each light wavelength below, and how you can add LED Light Therapy to your skincare routine effectively and easily!

So what do the different lights actually do?

💙Blue 423nm. Penetrates skin 1mm. Breakouts and Oily Skin Control.
Clinics have used blue LED light therapy to combat the effects of skin congestion and eliminating the bacteria that causes acne. The blue light helps by killing harmful bacteria, and also hydrating the skin.

♥️Red 640nm. Penetrates skin 1-6mm. Anti Ageing & Collagen Stimulation.
The red light option penetrates into the deepest layer of the skin. It stimulates skin cells to help produce more collagen, combating the appearance of wrinkles. The results are a firmer skin texture, increase blood flow, and a smoother, brighter complexion.

💛Yellow 583nm. Penetrates skin 1-2mm.
This light option helps to combat redness, alleviates inflammation, and assists in calming conditions such as eczema and rosacea.

💚Green 532nm. Penetrates skin 0.5mm-2mm. Hyperpigmentation and Dark Spots.
The green light promotes healing, aids in the effects of chronic pain and helps to combat age spots, dark circles and hyperpigmentation.

💜Magenta 640nm (red light) + 423nm (blue light). Regenerate Cells and Detoxify.
Detoxifying and improving the blood flow in your skin, the magenta light helps with lymph metabolism and removing toxins from the skin faster. It helps to increase cell regeneration and prolongs cell life

💙Cyan 532nm (green light) + 423nm (blue light). Strengthen and Heal.
Reducing oil production, the cyan option also has a soothing effect on broken skin, reducing the size of broken capillaries. It also helps to strengthen and desensitise skin.

How often should you use LED Light Therapy?

LED Light Therapy is most effective when used consistently. It is recommended to use your preferred light (chosen depending on your skin concerns) 10-20 mins per day, 4-5 times a week. As the skin cells have a regeneration cycle of 28 days, results can start to be seen in this time frame.

How do I add LED Light Therapy to my skincare routine?

When beginning a new skincare routine, it's always a good idea to get your GP's or Dermatologist's recommendation if you're pregnant, breast feeding, or have serious skin conditions or allergies.

LED Light Therapy should be used on clean, fresh and bare skin, prior to using any topical skincare products or treatments. LED Light Therapy can be used morning, or night, whenever it is your time to sit back, relax, and enjoy some downtime.

1. Clean the skin with an AHA/BHA based cleanser. This ensures cleaning deep within the pore.

2. Select your preferred colour light, time (between 10-20mins per light), and temperature.

3. Once treatment is finished (we advise not using for more than 30mins per session), you can continue with your normal skincare routine: serums, eye creams, moisturise.

The benefits of LED Light Therapy mean that you can even simplify your current skincare routine. Using a good cleanser, a night serum, and moisturiser, with a mask treatment sporadically, and you're good to go!
